Mike

Owner

Mike grew up in Apex, and started learning how to cook in high school beginning with simple foods. While he attended Appalachian State University, Mike and his roommates would collectively cook a meal once a week. They named it “Italian Tuesdays” because they mostly cooked Italian foods and it generally occurred on Tuesdays. Mike enjoys seeing kids learning to cook at a young age. “Cooking is a great skill to have for anyone at any age,” he says. “There is a ton of variety in cooking and it's the best way to ensure that you eat healthy.” Favorite ingredient to use: Almost anything that includes Noodles. Favorite food to make: Chicken Alfredo. Favorite dessert: Brownies. Favorite kitchen scent: Chocolate Chip Cookies baking. Favorite Food Network Chef: Guy Fieri

Party, Class and Event Instructor

I was born in Apex, and moved to Holly Springs when I was 10. My mom was always baking when I was little, which enabled me to be taught by her at a young age. I never really started cooking until I got a little older, as I still have such a big sweet tooth. The thing I enjoy the most about working with little chefs at Flour Power is the look on their faces when they end up liking something they didn’t think they would, or were hesitant to try. My favorite ingredient to use is chocolate chips. My favorite food to make is Penne Alla Vodka. My favorite dessert is chocolate cream pie. My favorite kitchen scent is chocolate chip cookies baking.

Abby

Abby

Party, Class and Event Instructor

Abby is a student at Wake Technical Community College. She is currently there to persue her degree in Baking in Pastry Arts and Business. She has been baking and cooking since she was 3 years old - ever since she could pick up a spatula! She loves working at Flour Power because the kids are all super nice and kind to everyone working each event, and they always are willing to participate and learn new things. In a way, she kind of sees herself in the kids because she was once a Flour Power student! So it’s nice to see the next generation of little chefs so willing to learn. Favorite ingredient to use: Chocolate. Favorite food to make: Bread and pastries. Favorite dessert: Macarons. Favorite kitchen scent: Freshly baked cookies. Favorite Food Network Chef: Bobby Flay.

Party, Class and Event Instructor

I am originally from Tucson, Arizona but grew up in Hudson, Ohio. I’ve grown up in a family of six and have loved randomly surprising them with desserts, specifically my homemade chocolate chip cookies! I have always loved helping my mom in the kitchen because her favorite way to express love has always been with home-cooked meals and I want to pass that on to those I love as well! I love working with the little chefs at Flour Power so much because I just love children in general, but I especially love their enthusiasm and creativity when it comes to cooking and baking. Favorite ingredient: marshmallows! Favorite food to make (and eat): yogurt parfaits with granola, strawberries, banana, blueberries, and honey! Favorite dessert: classic soft and gooey chocolate chip cookies! Favorite kitchen scents: citrus and the smell of baking pastries!
